Major Rent Increase at Peter Cooper Village / StuyTown PCVST
Imagine being 13 months into a 2 year lease and having a notice slipped under your door that in 15 days (June 1) your rent will be increased 30%, for some that could equal a $2200 increase. If you choose not to pay the increase, you have approximately 60 days to vacate (Mid July). That's just what happened as a major rent increase at Peter Cooper Village / StuyTown PCVST notifications were sent to about 1300 residents. The rent increases are in accordance with a legal settlement that set a formula for what the landlord can charge for about 4,300 of the complex’s apartments through 2020, So the increases may still be forthcoming for many residing in the 11,000 unit complex.
The Cost of Sunning Yourself at Stuytown Just Took a Major Jump |
Many of the residents of Stuytown are recent graduates sharing apartments with others...... Many had maxed out their ability to pay rent when they moved in. Asking to increase the rent this dramatically will me a major problem for some and impossible for others. They are now faced with the prospect of paying a higher rent elsewhere in the city along with the associated fees of moving, a brokers fee usually 15% of the yearly rent (on a $2500 1 bedroom that's $4500) and moving expenses. Not fair! PCVST management has moved back the rate increase and vacate dates by a month to 7/1/13 and 8/1/13, but would it have killed them to hold off till leases expire?
As a former resident of Stuytown I feel for these tenants. So, as an agent of Keller Williams NYC Real Estate, I'm going to offer anyone from Peter Cooper or Stuytown who is subject to these incresases, a significant discount off my fee if they would like help in finding a new residence. Instead of requiring a 15% fee, show me your notice of the rent increase and I will drop my fee for you to one month. That's an almost 50% decrease. The fee on that $2500 one bedroom would drop from $4500 to $2500. If you are considering moving out of Manhattan into Brooklyn ,or Queens my group can handle that too. So give me, Randy Reis a call or send me an email at 347.878.KWNY(5969) or rreis@kwnyc.com . Hope this helps! Randy
